Throwback RomComs
Prequel (Book .5): More Than Before
It’s the summer of 1987, and Danny Taylor is the newly hired varsity boys’ basketball coach and math teacher at Oakville High School. His high school girlfriend, Amelia Wallace, is the junior varsity volleyball coach and English teacher at the school. Their classrooms are directly across the hall from each other.
Sounds like a fairytale, right?
Wrong.
Amelia broke up with Danny on prom night more than six years ago, and they haven’t seen each other since. She never told him the truth about why she broke up with him, and he has never forgiven her for the out-of-the-blue breakup.
Will Danny and Amelia be able to reconcile and move beyond what happened in high school, or will the school year be filled with awkward encounters and messy feelings? Find out in More Than Before!
This is a second-chance, close-proximity, throwback novella. It reads like a contemporary romance novel with all the tropes, closed-door chemistry, and banter, but the relationship evolves without the use of cell phones or the Internet. Dating was a whole different game in the 80s!
Book 1: More Than Pen Pals
I deceived him for four years.
Ash and I were childhood pen pals. He thought I was a boy, and I never told him I wasn’t. Since we lived in different states, he’d never find out. Right?
Wrong. Well, he didn’t figure it out when we were kids, but now we’re sitting a few tables away from each other in a downtown Chicago restaurant, and I’m about to be exposed as a fraud.
I know what you’re thinking: Just keep your mouth shut, and he won't know who you are.
Wrong, again. My lunch companion and co-worker, Wendy, knows him. Wait. Let me amend that. She’s infatuated with him. Oh, yes. My newest friend has a crush on the boy I betrayed. What are the odds? Infinitely low. That’s what they are.
To top things off, Ash’s brother just saved me from choking to death. It’s been an eventful lunch, to say the least. And now Wendy is determined to stop by their table to thank him again and to flirt with Ash.
He’s going to hate me, right?
Please tell me I’m wrong.

Book 2: So Much More
I knew I shouldn’t have done it.
Last month, after I schemed to get my best friend together with her boyfriend, I ended up cuddled on the couch with his brother—platonically, if platonic cuddling is even a thing. (I can attest that it’s not. Well, at least it doesn’t feel like it.) Not only that, but I agreed to keep doing it and to keep it a secret from everyone. At the time, I had no doubts it was a mistake. He and his girlfriend had broken up only days before, and I’d wanted him for a long time. But I did it anyway.
Now here we are five weeks later. My head is on his lap, his fingers are sliding through my hair, and it’s all I can do to keep myself from pulling his lips down to mine. I don’t, because I know he doesn’t want that. How do I know? He told me so when we started this. Plus, if he changed his mind, he’d let me know. The man is not one to hold back.
But then again, neither am I. I’m known for speaking my mind, but in this case I’m not. I’m scared that if I try to take this to another level, he’ll shoot me down. And then where will we be? My best friend is probably going to marry his brother. And we work together. It’s an impossible situation.
Somebody help me!
